Today’s Photo: Catedral de la Inmaculada Concepción in Cuenca
Ahhh Cuenca!! – An update on the ongoing car repair drama; a visit to the arboretum and bird sanctuary at the Pumapungo Archaeological Park with Alexis, a friend from Quito; and responses to those not-so-great comments from readers.
Castles in Cuenca – The injured worker is doing fine and is back at work. Poochito (I do like that moniker) the guard dog’s real name is Capitan.
Ecuador 4u – While shopping for food at the new Tia store Filipe heard this song playing in the background. He gives us a list of current prices for the most common grocery items and finds it is much cheaper and healthier to buy local.
Ecuador Photos – I finally get around to my morning updates and Robert posts the last of his pictures of the 2009 Corso Parade from Ambato. (Hint: to see all the terrific photos click on “Older Post” at the bottom of the page.)
Exodus and Ecuador – Sue’s at the right place at the right time when she runs into not one but two neighborhood parades. They happened upon the celebrations for President Correa’s five years in office; the fireworks continued on into the wee hours.
Flight Crews Move to Ecuador – Jim and Silene give us an update. They’ve discovered a new ice cream place, the apartment still hasn’t sold, and they are readying up for an inside tailgate party for Sunday’s Super Bowl.
Gaithers Love Ecuador – For forty years Gary had been giving financial advice (if only they had listened when he said to buy gold.) He says we must remain proactive for our financial health and offers up these recommendations.
Gringos Abroad – If you want to see Galapagos and Ecuador off the usual beaten path, and travel more eco-friendly, vacation volunteering is for you. Shawna Fagundes, a guest blogger from Lead Adventures South America, explains.
Juntos en el Camino de la Vida – Suzanne and Roger couldn’t help but feel that the fireworks display celebrated their arrival in Cuenca. Their residency application has a case number (Woohoo) and the offer on their dream house was accepted and they hope to be able to move in next month.
Kimbler’s Exit to Ecuador – Karen steps out to inspect the big dig. Ongoing construction of the bypass at the old redondel at Ave. Las Americans and Ave. Ordonez Lasso/Gran Columbia has affected many of the small businesses located nearby.
Living and Retiring in Ecuador – There will always be some difficult times and living abroad during a loved one’s health crisis can make you feel helpless. We’ll say silent prayers for Mark’s father and hope for his speedy recovery.
Nancy and Chuck – That Mary must be the luckiest woman on the planet; she’s welcomed to Cuenca with a special get together at California Kitchen and given her own personal tour of the city by none other than celebrity bloggerista Nancy Watson.
New Beginnings in Cuenca – The pets inspected the yard at the new house. Trish tells us that the construction is progressing, wish she could say the same for her visa. She got an estimate for new window coverings but found it was much cheaper to buy the fabric and commission a seamstress.
Olon Again…Naturally – Leigh and Todd welcome Sarah to the Jardines de Olon neighborhood, she bought their house (don’t worry it will still be available for rent.) The couple moved into a temporary rental closer to town and feel really lucky since this is the high season for tourists at the beach. Daisy has already made new friends in the barrio.
Smiles Away – Vickie reflects back on the changes to her life over the last year since she left the grind of a twelve hour workday and made Vilcabamba her home. She celebrated her one year anniversary with a trip to Salinas.
